The AACN Chapter at UCLA is proud to present “Rising Together: Slice of NTI Symposium," held on Monday, February 26, 2024.

The symposium aims to inspire and re-energize nurses and nursing students to influence their work environment, advance their practice, and improve outcomes. The AACN Chapter at UCLA brings together local and national nurse leaders to provide a forum that serves as a valuable avenue for reflection, professional growth, networking, and leadership development.

Keynote Speaker: Theresa M. Davis, PhD, RN, NE-BC, CHTP, FAAN. President of the Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) 2023-2024. 

Guest Speaker: Nancy Blake, PhD, RN, CCRN-K, NHDP-BC, NEA-BC, FACHE, FAONL, FAAN, Chief Nursing Officer, LA General Hospital. 

Contact Hours: This activity has been submitted to the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses for approval to award contact hours. The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses is accredited as an approver of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.


Registration Refund and Cancellation Policy

Cancellation and refund Policy: All Cancellations must be received in writing via email to: aacn.ucla@gmail.com

  • Cancellations received by February 12, 2024, 11:59 p.m. PT will qualify for a full refund.
  • Cancellations received February 13 through February 18, 2024, 11:59 p.m. PT will incur a $50 cancellation fee, which will be deducted from your refund.
  • Cancellations received February 19, 2024 or later do not qualify for a refund.
  • No refunds will be issued by the Chapter for non-attendance 

If the chapter cancels the event for any reason, registrants will be notified by the e-mail used to register and a full refund will be issued within two weeks of cancellation. 

Exhibitor Cancellations:

If Chapter cancels the event for any reason, Exhibitor will be notified, and any
prepaid support funds to Chapter will be returned to Exhibitor within 10 business days.

If Exhibitor cancels: Cancellation must be received in writing via email to: aacn.ucla@gmail.com.

  • Greater than 14 days before the event: 100% of the cost of the exhibit fee will be returned to the exhibitor within 10 business days.
  • 7-14 days before the event: 50% of the cost of the exhibit fee will be retained by Chapter.
  • Less than 7 days before the event: 100% of the cost of the exhibit space will be retained by Chapter.

Speakers

Terri Davis
Terri Davis PhD, RN, NE-BC, CHTP, FAAN

President of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses

Davis is assistant vice president of nursing at the High Reliability Center, Inova Health System, Falls Church, Virginia. Most recently, she was clinical operations director of enVision teleICU at Inova Health System, Falls Church, Virginia, from 2004 to 2021, implementing and leading the teleICU. She was also adjunct faculty for George Mason University and Shenandoah University with a focus on nursing informatics, advanced pathophysiology and research from 2016-2020. In partnership with the Northern Virginia Hospital Alliance in 2009-2010, she implemented the Teledisaster Program in nine hospitals across Northern Virginia, which is now present in 16 hospitals. An AACN ambassador since 2017, she was also a Beacon Award reviewer (2017-2018), TeleICU Task Force member (2017-2018; 2010-2013), a member of the NTI Program Planning Committee (2015-2016), and a member of the AACN Nominating Committee (2014-2015). Her clinical specialties are trauma/neuro critical care and teleICU, and she has led research in the areas of healing touch, caring science and technology acceptance. She is also exploring research in integrative care for symptom management. Davis is a co-author of "AACN TeleICU Nursing Practice: An Expert Consensus Statement Supporting High Acuity, Progressive, and Critical Care" (2018), and "Tele-ICU Today: Connecting Care Through Innovation," in Nursing2015 Critical Care, among many other publications and numerous presentations. Additional affiliations include membership in the Virginia Nurses Association, Sigma's Epsilon Zeta Chapter and Society of Critical Care Medicine. She is past chair of the American Telemedicine Association's Tele-ICU Special Interest Group and served on the American Nurses Association's Professional Issues Panel: Connected Health/Telehealth. Among her many awards, she received the 2017 IAMS Quality Merit Citation and Alumni of the Year in 2015 from George Mason University College of Health and Human Services, Virginia. In 2018, she was inducted as a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. Davis earned a PhD in nursing philosophy and a Master of Science in nursing administration in 2002 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1998, all from George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia. She is also a certified healing touch practitioner (CHTP), 2016-2026.

Nancy Blake
Nancy Blake PhD, RN, CCRN-K, NHDP-BC, NEA-BC, FACHE, FAONL, FAAN

Guest Speaker

Nancy Blake, Chief Nursing Officer at Los Angeles General Medical Center is a highly visible and accomplished nurse executive with more than 40 years of progressive leadership experience for patient care services, including operations, quality of care, program and staff development, patient experience, budgeting, and regulatory compliance. A leader who impacts clinical outcomes through research, performance improvement and staff mentorship. Possesses excellent presentation and communication skills. Nancy has been an active member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). She served as director on the national board of directors and as treasurer in 2006. She is past president of the Los Angeles AACN Chapter and has served AACN and other nursing organizations in many local and national volunteer roles. Nancy is a nationally recognized speaker on healthy work environments, leadership and management, and pediatric disaster preparedness with numerous publications on disaster preparedness and nurses' role in creating and sustaining healthy work environments. Nancy has participated in large grants and work groups to set standards for local, state, and federal pediatric disaster preparedness including a CDC work group that published in 2011 standards for pediatric critical care mass casualty published. She received a BSN from Mount Saint Mary’s College in Los Angeles, MN in Nursing Administration and PhD in nursing from UCLA. Her doctoral dissertation studied the relationship between healthy work environments and patient outcomes and nurse outcomes. She was inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2013.
